中文摘要:
Corporate culture is the beliefs and behaviors that determine how a company's employees and management interact and handle outside business transactions. Often, corporate culture is implied, not expressly defined, and develops organically over time from the cumulative traits of the people the company hires. A company's culture will be reflected in its dress code, business hours, office setup, employee benefits, turnover, hiring decisions, treatment of clients, client satisfaction and every other aspect of operations. Corporate culture is becoming increasingly important in the war for talent and retention at companies of all types around the world. There are thousands of companies that can be regarded as successful, each with different corporate cultures, and each representing different philosophies of business. Google, for example, has been occupying a high ranking on Fortune magazine’s list of “100 Best Companies to Work for” because of its unique, employee-friendly corporate culture. At the other extreme, Foxconn has been constantly criticized for its military management corporate culture, the consequence of which being waves of suicide of desperate employees and a notorious reputation for the company. All those being said, there is no sufficient evidence for one to conclude that the corporate culture of Google is superior to that of Foxconn’s, the reason being the different nature of the two companies and the industries they are in. There are several purposes of the thesis, stated as below. This thesis tries to present to the reader the definition and importance of corporate culture. This thesis tries to define what a strong and well-managed corporate culture is and how corporate culture influences employee performance through looking into how a strong and well-managed corporate culture affects employee engagement and group cohesiveness. This thesis also explores the relationship between corporate culture and financial performance by analyzing how a strong and well-managed corporate culture influences costs related to Human Resource, employee motivation and employee job satisfaction In the end, this thesis shortly analyzes the corporate culture of Foxconn and Google to illustrate that the discussions of how corporate culture influences a company have practical usefulness.
