“舍卫城神变”——作为佛陀传奇经历中的一个片段，见于很多佛教文献。这个故事主要描述了佛陀为降服外道在舍卫城示现的一系列神变，具体细节随文本不同存在差异。随着佛教艺术的发展演变，“舍卫城神变”图像在佛传浮雕中的重要性逐渐凸显。前辈学者通过文本、图像分析，在构建这一主题的图像表现系统和发展脉络上已有很大进展。然而作为“舍卫城神变”三大中心事件之一的“大神变”图像的界定和解析，不同于“芒果树神变”和“双神变”，由于情节本身的复杂性，一直存在很多困惑和争议。本文总结前人研究成果，对多部重要佛典关于“舍卫城神变”之描述进行分析，并在此基础上从图像学角度解析笈多时代萨尔纳特佛传浮雕中的“舍卫城大神变”图像的处理方式和图像特征，进而对图像演变和图文关系作一定探讨。 “The Miracles of Śrāvastī”, as a fragment of the Buddha’s legend, has been found in many Buddhist literatures. This story mainly described a series of miracle showed by Buddha at Śrāvastī in order to beat the heretics, and the details vary according to the different versions of the texts. With the development of the Buddhist art, “The Miracles of Śrāvastī” image has become more important in the field of Buddha biography sculpture. Senior scholars have made a great progress in constructing the iconographic system and the developing sequence of this theme, by textual and iconographic analyses. However, as one of the three central events of the “Śrāvastī Miracles”, the identification and analysis of the “Great Miracle”, different from the “Mango Tree Miracle” and “Twin Miracle”, still have many disputes and muddles, because of its complication. Depending on summarizing the previous studies and analyzing the deceptions of the important Buddhist scriptures on the “Śrāvastī Miracles”, this paper analyzes the artistic techniques and image features of the “Great Śrāvastī Miracle” images in the sārnāth gupta steles of the Buddha’s life from the iconographic point of view, then do some research on the image evolution and the relationship between the literatures and images.
